Dorothy (Dot) Denham Jarrell

Dorothy (Dot) Denham Jarrell, 81, of Laurel, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at home on August 23, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving husband, children, grandchildren and friends at the time of her passing. She was born on November 10, 1943 to Edith Mae Davis Lawson and David Phillip Lawson. She is preceded in death by her father, David Phillip Lawson; mother, Edith Lawson; brothers, Jerry Lawson and Aubrey Dale Lawson; daughter, Pamela Dickerson; and son-in-law, Bobby Stroo. After raising her family, she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse, completing her GED and enrolling in nursing school at the age of 43. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and began her career at Forrest General Hospital in the emergency department. While in the emergency room, she worked as a night shift nurse, charge nurse, nurse manager and retired as the director of the emergency room. Her morals, values and work ethics made an impact on everyone she worked with. Leadership is one of the many legacies that she will leave behind. Under her leadership, her nursing staff excelled in their roles and to this day the standards she set are still topics of conversation. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church where she was very active and helped contribute to the growth of missionary work. Her faith in the Lord was unwavering and strong. She is survived by her husband, William Lamont (Monty) Jarrell; son, Phil Dickerson ( Marsha); daughters, Paula Walters (Nick) and Patti Stroo; grandchildren, Cari Stewart (Reggie), Amber Touchstone, Johnathon Stroo (Erica), Casey Stroo (Jessica), Cody Mann, Aaron Mann (Sommer), Zachary Dickerson, Gage Dickerson; and sister, Kathryn Moncivias. She had 10 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home and beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Freedom Baptist Church with services to follow at 2:00 p.m. Services will be officiated by Robby Johnson, Nathan Brown and Craig Walters. Burial will be in Myrick Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Casey Stroo, Johnathan Stroo, Aaron Mann, Cody Mann, Lane White, Blake Touchstone and Drew Stewart.
